How many Emmys can Game of Thrones actually win for its final season?

Emmy nominations are out, and we all have two months to settle on our final predictions. (No judgment if you pick literally hours before the show starts, or even minutes.) As has been already much-noted, Game of Thrones is in its last year of eligibility, meaning that it, naturally, scored a record number of nominations, 32 in all.

But with overlapping nominations in some of the key categories, including directing and some of the acting categories, how many awards can the show really win? That’s the question at hand here.

We’re about to go through every single nomination the show has, starting with those that will be awarded at the Creative Arts Emmys rather than during the primetime show, and then working our way up. There’s a lot to get through.

We’ll take a look at the show’s history in the category in question, what it’s up against, and even which episode(s) has been chosen to represent Game of Thrones‘ final bow on television, then make our initial predictions. To burst one bubble right away, though, we don’t think it’ll sweep every category where it’s nominated. This has been a great year for television as a whole, and there’s some seriously stiff competition.
