Game of Thrones merch at San Diego Comic-Con, including new look at Mega Construx sets
San Diego Comic-Con is never just about the panels, though those are where most of the major news items break. No, friends, it’s about the merch. Game of Thrones, with its last appearance at Comic-Con upon us, is no exception.
In fact, HBO seems to be going all out with all the categories of merch you can ooh, aah, and hopefully spend your money on, since it posted an album to Facebook for everyone to enjoy. A sampling:
One photo is so awesome that it’s making the rounds about the internet: a prototype of one of the Mega Construx sets. Behold, a miniature model of Daenerys Targaryen’s assault on King’s Landing, but this time with Viserion still around to blow blue fire and the walls of Winterfell in front of the towers of King’s Landing. Also, there are trees and icy cliffs right next to the city! Who knew?
Okay, the actual explanation is that these are multiple sets. We knew about the Daenerys and Drogon set, for instance.
From this, we can guess that there are maybe four sets instead of the two that were previously thought to exist: Daenerys and Drogon and the Beyond the Wall set. It appears that there might eventually be a Winterfell as well as a King’s Landing set, too, which makes sense. Why wouldn’t you create bigger, badder sets meant for collectors who want to have their own castles? Sure, it’s a miniature castle made out of plastic bricks, but it’s the principle of the thing.
