“Lace for the Throne!” With thanks to Adidas, we’re here to review a pair of Game of Thrones shoes: the AM4 The Throne shoes, featuring the Iron Throne printed over a blue background.
These shoes are packed with subtle details. “GoT” is printed on one tongue while “AM4” is on the other. “For the Throne” is inscribed on a black strip up the side of each shoe. The key word in the design is “subtlety.” Unlike some of the shoes in the Ultraboost Game of Thrones collection, these don’t immediately read as Game of Thrones shoes — not unless you look closely, since the seat of the throne is actually towards the top of the shoe, not the bottom.
Get in close and you can just see the etched Adidas logo on both shoes, with “AM4” on the left and “GoT” on the right.
Here’s a better look at the “For The Throne” detail:
Again, it’s not easy to see unless you’re right up in there and have good lighting, which isn’t a bad thing. Instead, it seems like it’d be a nice surprise for someone who admires your shoes, or just something for you to keep in mind as you stroll bout town.
You can also see the detail on the foam bottoms — it looks almost like a snow wall. That’s more a detail of the shoe type in general rather than this shoe specifically, but it works really well for a Game of Thrones shoe.
But looks aren’t everything when it comes to shoes. Here’s WiC editor Dan Selcke, doing some modeling:
He had to lace them up a bit, but once the shoes were on his feet, he reported that they were “very comfortable” and barely needed any breaking in — which is a pretty high selling point for a pair of running shoes. He also noted that the uniquely-shaped heel didn’t really alter the fit at all, but that they were both “not too tight, not too loose.”
Our favorite mystery, though, is the little tube visible on the sole:
It’s probably part of the shoes’ “adaptive running” features, but mostly it just looks like you may be a spy, and that’s one of your gadgets. Or it’s some sort of forbidden artifact from the Age of Heroes.
As I’m writing this, he’s still wearing the shoes, which seems like the greatest endorsement of all, frankly.
