I am not an anime expert. I’ve never been to a convention, I don’t speak a bit of Japanese, and there are huge swaths of the genre with which I am completely unfamiliar. That said, I did enjoy the odd anime series when I was younger; in fact, I was fairly attentive around the round Neon Genesis Evangelion was making a splash in the west. I never did watch it, but I heard of it. I heard that it was different, and dense, and risk-taking, and since then I know it’s gone on to inspire a lot of other shows and movies. It remains a hole in my anime education.
Until now. With the series newly available on Netflix, I thought this would be a great time to catch up with Evangelion, and to share my impressions of each episode as I watch. Are you thinking of taking in this classic series, again or for the first time? Watch along!
