Go inside ‘Visions from the Upside Down,’ the new Stranger Things art book

Stranger Things had all kinds of iconic scenes over its first three seasons: Joyce Byers and the Christmas lights, the Mind Flayer appearing over Hawkins Middle School, and even the battle of Starcourt. In honor of the show’s visual splendor, Del Rey is publishing a new artbook: Visions from the Upside Down.

Although the book doesn’t go on sale until October 15, Del Rey has shared with us a preview of the art contained within, including reflections from the artists on why they’re fans of Stranger Things, what’s going on in their pieces, and more.

Let’s check it out, shall we?

Some of the art looks like it’ll be full-page, like this piece featuring Joyce and her lights. The color palette mixes the oranges and reds really well with blues and whites to give that idea of chaos.

This one, with Nancy and the Demogorgon together, has an old-school pulp novel feel to it, even before you see the title of the show up top. Wouldn’t it be fun to read some ’80s-style choose-your-own-adventure books named things like Escape from the Demogorgon?

Will features pretty prominently in some of the creepy-in-a-good-way art, as you might imagine:

But Eleven also inspires plenty of pieces on her own:

That one will take a while to dislodge from the mind.

Notice the 20-side die in the middle of the piece above, a Dungeons & Dragons reference. Of course, the face we can see is the number 11.

We may have saved the best for last, though:

The hair! The unzipped windbreaker! The bat! It is a fitting tribute to Steve Harrington indeed.
