IT: Chapter Two is rapidly approaching and I, for one, cannot wait, even though clowns regularly haunt my nightmares.
But what’s really scary is the runtime. Director Andy Muschietti spoke to Digital Spy about the length of the movie, confirming that it will clock in at 2 hours and 45 minutes! That’s nearly as long as Avengers: Endgame!
Stephen King’s IT is a famously long book, but still, that’s a lot of killer clown. Still, apparently it’s short of what could have been: “You cannot deliver a 4-hour movie because people will start to feel uncomfortable – no matter what they see – but we ended up having a movie that is 2 hours and 45 minutes, and the pacing is very good,” said Muschietti. “Nobody who’s seen the movie has had any complaint.”
And there’s a lot left to explain in IT: Chapter Two, including where IT came from. The child cast from the first movie will return in a limited capacity, but mostly Chapter Two will focus on them as grownups, returning to the haunted town of Derry, Maine decades later to finally defeat the evil they fought as kids. There’s a lot to include.
And don’t worry; for those of you who don’t think the three-hour runtime is long enough, producer Barbara Muschietti promises a director’s cut down the line. “We have some amazing scenes that didn’t make it into the movie,” she said. “You have to make choices sometimes and some things cannot be in this theatrical release but are definitely worthy of people seeing them at a later date.”

And just so everyone knows, Muschietti promises that the second part will be absolutely terrifying, with “verything that is too scary” spared from the cutting room floor. So get ready for some sleepless nights after IT: Chapter Two drops into theatres on Friday, September 6th.
