Con of Thrones: Where does the Game of Thrones fandom go from here?

facebooktwitterreddit

Last month, I went to Con of Thrones 2019 in Nashville, Tennessee to celebrate the show after it ended forever. I sat on panels, listened to the actors, and talked to a lot of really passionate fans about how they were feeling now that the show was over. It was, put simply, a blast.

One of the funner parts of the experience was interviewing fans. Below, I asked a bunch of attendees — all of whom were wearing splendiferous costumes — about what the Game of Thrones fandom does with all its passion now that the show is at an end. Are they looking forward to the prequel? How about the books? Or the critical mass of other sci-fi and fantasy shows just over the horizon?

Kudos to the fan dressed as Ros during her death scene. You gotta love a deep cut.

Anyway, there’s a diversity of opinion as to What Happens Next. Honestly, if people are still going to Star Wars and Star Trek cons decades after they debuted, I see no reason why Con of Thrones can’t stick around for a while. And of course, if Blood Moon takes off, it could give the franchise a fresh start, to say nothing of The Winds of Winter rounding the corner eventually.
