ABC trying to make a show about a “mostly new” female Marvel hero
Can Marvel dominate TV like it’s dominating movies? It’s not a sure thing, but Marvel and parent company Disney are sure going to try, whether it’s on Disney+ or on just regular TV. We’re talking about the latter today, for once.
Deadline reports that ABC is still trying to make a Marvel show to follow Agents of SHIELD, which will end after its upcoming seventh season. This new show will center around one hero — “something brand new, mostly,” according to ABC Entertainment President Karey Burke. Burke also said that the new show would fit into the company’s “strategy of female-focused superheroes,” to quote Deadline.
So, let’s unpack that a bit. Is this “mostly brand new” hero someone who’s been alluded to in previous works, or introduced but not given a solo project yet? Someone like Shuri from Black Panther would fit that category, and as a popular character would certainly draw in viewers. Or how about someone who has had a solo project, but doesn’t have one anymore? ABC wouldn’t make a good home for the Jessica Jones Netflix series, but a slightly retooled version, or even a full-on reboot, might have some appeal. Deadline even wonders if She-Hulk might get a show, since she’s related to Bruce Banner.

But — and not to get your hopes up — what if the idea is to go back to Agent Carter in some way, shape, or form? Now that Endgame has revealed what happens to her — she marries Captain America and lives a long life — why not pick up with her in the ’60s and beyond?
That would make her “mostly new,” as that part of her journey hasn’t been covered much. It wouldn’t necessarily need Chris Evans, but it certainly couldn’t hurt for him to make a couple of cameo appearances when Peggy is really in trouble. Rumors are flying around that something related to Agent Carter will make a reappearance in Agents of SHIELD season 7, for instance. Could that be the setup for a new show?
Hayley Atwell’s other star vehicle on ABC, Conviction, didn’t get off the ground, so she might very well want to come back to this role. Like we said above, don’t get your hopes up, but don’t rule it out either.
