Star Wars has always made reference to other properties, from the early days when it referenced Flash Gordon and Akira Kurosawa to…Peanuts? No, seriously, the comic strip by Charles Schultz has made its way to the galaxy far, far away…sort of.

Enter Jedi: Fallen Order, an upcoming video game from Respawn, to be published by EA. BD-1, a cute little droid that will help main character Cal Kestis explore areas and hack into Imperial systems, has already gotten a lot of attention. But if his profile looks familiar, it might be because he resembles Woodstock and Snoopy, according to Aaron Contreras, the game’s narrative lead, who spoke to The Guardian.

Of course, Cal Kestis is no Charlie Brown — his problems go beyond getting a little red-headed girl to talk to him. And BD-1 is not a fighter pilot in his daydreams like Snoopy. It’s more serious than that for these two, who are trying not to get taken out by the rise of the Galactic Empire after most other Jedi have been killed thanks to Order 66. Granted, Cal’s not a full Jedi, but he’s close enough to count by Imperial standards.

“Like all things Star Wars, we try to have a wide range of tone,” Contreras said. I imagine the more notes the game hits, the happier people might be with their purchases…meaning they’ll be more likely to buy DLC and so on and so forth.

By the sound of it, Contreras and his team have worked hard to make sure Fallen Order will give players a full experience. “Every character, every line in the script, every story beat has been negotiated, discussed, challenged, and fought over with Lucasfilm,” he said. Of course, Lucasfilm’s deep involvement doesn’t necessarily guarantee a good product, but it should make you feel a little better that this will all fit into the existing canon.

Also, BD-1 really is that cute anyway, so we can’t be too mad.
