This November, Disney is debuting Disney+, its new streaming service. Soon enough, Disney+ will be the only place you can stream anything involving the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Star Wars Pixar and anything else owned by the House of Mouse.
Now, you might see this as Disney hoarding its vast collection of content to get subscription dollars…and you’d be right…but the company is putting a happier face on it with a recent Twitter thread depicting its iconic characters packing their stuff and getting ready to move on out.
Almost! But in a shocking turn of events, we can't find Dory. pic.twitter.com/k7EI8kTPnc
— Pixar (@Pixar) August 19, 2019
Naturally, it’s not just Disney getting in on the fun. Its many subsidiaries are kicking in commentary, too, with the National Geographic Twitter account suggesting where Pixar could find Dory for the move:
Maybe we can help! Have you tried looking in shallow, tropical reefs of the Indo-Pacific? That’s where you’ll find paracanthurus hepatus. Just don’t get confused with acanthurus leucosternon or acanthurus coeruleus – they all are known as blue tangs! pic.twitter.com/Mq1BKGBxy0
— National Geographic (@NatGeo) August 19, 2019
This is the content the internet was created for.
Naturally, all the Marvel superheroes are eager to get a move on.
And we’ve got Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, on your left! pic.twitter.com/LunbbhlECR
— Avengers (@Avengers) August 19, 2019
And let’s not forget our friends in a galaxies far, far away:
I am Groot. pic.twitter.com/BajwlPuIJR
— Guardians of the Galaxy (@Guardians) August 19, 2019
Eloquent as always, Groot.
It's barely 9:00 am and we already found Dory, assembled the @Avengers, and got @StarWars and @Marvel to tweet at each other. NBD just the most ambitious crossover event in history.
— Disney+ (@DisneyPlus) August 19, 2019
Not everyone is amused by this thread, however:
Worst. Corporate Twitter stunt. Ever. pic.twitter.com/EK4KfVGTKX
— The Simpsons (@TheSimpsons) August 19, 2019
The irony there is that because Disney bought 20th Century Fox, it owns The Simpsons, so any surliness on The Simpsons Twitter account is actually carefully calculated corporate strategy designed to sell you the illusion of authenticity.
