It seems like only yesterday that HBO programming president Casy Bloys was non-committal about whether Westworld, which is coming back for a third season sometime next year, would be getting renewed beyond that. Compared to season 1, season 2 was less popular with both fans and critics, and we figured that HBO would at least see how season 3 went before agreeing to a season 4.

But Bloys must have seen something he liked about Westworld newest season, because Discussing Film has broken the news that it’s been picked up for a fourth season.

Thus far, there’s been a two-year gap between each new season of the show, and Discussing Film speculates that it was renewed early so the wait for season 4 wouldn’t be as arduous. We’re all for that. For now, all we have to do is wait a measly handful of months for the third season, which will move the action away from the titular park and introduce some new characters:

Moving on, HBO has announced that it’s also renewed another of its newer hits — Succession, a drama about the ultra-rich Roy family, which runs a media empire not no subtly modeled after Fox News — for a third season. The show just kicked off its second season, and we are eating it up.

“We are elated that Succession and its exploration of wealth, power and family has resonated so powerfully with audiences,” said HBO drama programming head Francesca Orsi. “We cannot wait to see how the complex characters that Jesse Armstrong has created continue to navigate this captivating, ruthless world of the uber-rich. In today’s world where the intersection of politics and media is increasingly prevalent, Succession presents an especially piercing look behind the curtain of this elite, influential, and cutthroat community.”

This past Sunday’s new episode may have been its best yet. We’re definitely excited to see more of the show.

The Hollywood Reporter even suggests that HBO could be positioning Succession as its flagship show now that Game of Thrones is over. It’s basically a show about the Lannister family in modern times and without fantasy elements, so we can buy that.
