John Wick spinoff show ‘The Continental’ coming to Starz
Deadline report that Starz has ordered to series a John Wick spinoff called The Continental. The series has been enjoying huge success lately, with the third film in the series, Parabellum, being the best yet. Lionsgate has already ordered a fourth movie scheduled to hit theaters on May 21, 2021. Can we expect the series before that?
According to Jeffrey Hirsch (Starz Chief Operating Officer), who spoke at a recent Television Critics Association presser, we’re going to have to wait a while. “My sense is that where we are today, the movie date has been set but we’re still in early development on the series so [it will air] most likely after.”
Deadline, which is all over the John Wick beat today, also has it that The Continental will be all about the “inner workings” of the hotel where assassins like John Wick (Keanu Reeves) can take refuge.
“This series is truly unlike anything else on TV,” Starz CEO Chris Albrecht said in a statement. “The Continental promises to include the thunderous fight sequences and intensely staged shootouts between professional assassins and their targets that fans have come to expect in the John Wick movie franchise as well as introducing some new, darkly compelling characters who inhabit this underground world.”
That sounds like fun! Speaking of the eponymous character, Starz is now also saying that Keanu Reeves — as John Wick — will appear “at some point” during the series, although it won’t revolve around his character. Still, his presence alone means The Continental will be an instant success. We’re in the midst of the Keanusance, and resistance is futile.
