Doctor Who YouTube Watch: This Gallifrey Stands fan-edit makes an iconic moment even better

This new fan-edit of an iconic Doctor Who moment is extremely impressive, and offers a fresh take on an already amazing scene.

We all remember “Gallifrey stands!” Arguably the best moment from The Day of the Doctor, seeing all the Doctors rescue Gallifrey was absolutely amazing. Particularly how it gave us a brief glimpse of Peter Capaldi’s Doctor – before he had even been properly introduced in Matt Smith’s regeneration story The Time of the Doctor! It really is an iconic moment for Doctor Who.

Naturally, there have been a few fan-edits of this moment over the past several years. Many of them have been extremely good. But perhaps the best one yet is this amazing and seamless edit by YouTube user The Confession Dial.

At over six and a half minutes long, it does more than expand on just one or two Doctor’s roles in The Day of the Doctor‘s amazing climax. Instead, it expands on the roles of all the Doctors, and imagines how all of them were brought together before that amazing reveal.

Excellent editing

This is an incredibly impressive piece of work. The Confession Dial uses primarily editing to tell this story. Oh, they use some neat little effects tricks here and there, like some of the Classic Doctors seeing the last day of the Time War on their scanners.

But virtually all the lines used have been taken from other stories and formed into a seamless conversation between all the Doctors. And it feels like a natural conversation, too. There’s not just exposition from the Eleventh Doctor, letting them all know about what he’s trying to do with Ten and War. But there’s plenty of banter, too, with both witty lines and reactions perfectly timed to each other.

On top of that, The Confession Dial expands on the classic “All thirteen!” moment, in a big and impressive way. It’s a nice little addition that looks further to the future of Doctor Who than even the original special did. Much, much further, in fact.

Overall, this is an incredibly impressive piece of fan-editing, one that gives us a great new perspective on a moment that we’re all familiar with.
