This past weekend, Game of Thrones star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister) returned to Tennessee — this time to Knoxville rather than Nashville, where we saw him at Con of Thrones 2019 — for Bubba Fest, “America’s Original Southern-Fried ComicCon,” according to the website. Suddenly I’m hungry.

Anyway, while there, he was visited by the fine folks at Guinness World Records, who took the opportunity to honor Coster-Waldau and his costar Ian Beattie (Meryn Trant), who was also at the con, for all the world records Game of Thrones had broken during its time on air, including:

  1. Most Emmy Awards for a fictional series
  2. Most Emmy Awards for a drama series
  3. Most Emmy Awards won by a TV series in a season
  4. Most pirated television programming
  5. Most viewers sharing a torrent file simultaneously.
  6. Largest TV drama simulcast (number of countries)
  7. Most VES Awards won by a TV series.
  8. Most in-demand TV show based on a book adaptation
  9. Most in-demand TV premiers demand expressions.

Didn’t the show also break a record for setting the most people on fire in a scene? Maybe they can pencil that one in later.

Ahead of the convention, Coster-Waldau talked briefly to Know News about his con experience, and about next steps now that the show is over. “I think we all were ready to move on,” he said. “Not that we were tired of working on the show, but the story was over. We had a great run and on to something else.”

"Right now I am sitting in an airport in Iceland after a location scout on a film I am developing. And then I’ve shot a couple of films and a documentary. Might be bringing a small crew to shoot footage from Knoxville. I do find the world of Comic Cons a great backdrop for a show."

If he wants to make a show about fan culture, we’re happy to serve as consultants.
