New footage from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker!
Disney held its D23 Expo over the weekend, and Star Wars fans were in for quite a treat. On Friday, the first official trailer for The Mandalorian was shown, and on Saturday, attendees were shown the first new footage from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Unfortunately, that footage wasn’t released online.
UNTIL NOW! Now that the expo is over, House of Mouse has released the footage into the wild. Enjoy!
Again, this isn’t technically a trailer — you can expect another one of those when tickets go on sale in October.
And in this teaser, the new footage doesn’t kick in until 1:13, but I appreciate the walk down memory lane.
Let’s break the new stuff down moment by moment:
- Rey, Poe, Finn, C-3PO and Chewbacca on yet another desert planet.
- General Leia on a jungle planet.
- A quick shot of the small Resistance fleet (but that’s grown from the entire group being housed on the Millennium Falcon at the end of The Last Jedi, so…progress!)
- A quick shot of hundreds of Star Destroyers lining up in some sort of blockade as Finn and Naomi Ackie’s character look on.
- Rey throwing her lightsaber through a tree, then summoning it back to her hand. That’s new!
- Supreme Leader Kylo Ren exiting his ship and igniting his lightsaber.
- Kylo Ren and Rey in a lightsaber duel on the wreckage of the Death Star (I think).
Now here’s where the fun begins: Rey is hooded on what looks like a jungle or a swamp planet, holding a double-bladed lightsaber of the king Darth Maul used back in The Phantom Menace.
What did you guys think of the teaser? Let’s discuss in the comments.
