HBO and the BBC have teamed up for an adaptation of Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials novels, set to drop sometime this fall. HBO has released a trailer already. Today, the BBC debuted its own teaser, this one focusing on the young hero of the story, Lyra Belacqua (Dafne Keen).

There’s plenty of new footage to see, including a glimpse at a scene with Lee Scoresby (Lin-Manuel Miranda) with his arctic hare daemon, Hester — everyone has animal familiars called daemons in this world, it’s a thing — plus more of the armored bear Iorek Byrnison, who this time is pounding some poor fellow into the mud. Check it out:

Yeah, that guy never stood a chance against Iorek.

Also of note are new scenes featuring Lyra traveling with the gyptians — a nomadic group of people — led by Farder Coram, played by James Cosmo, who you may remember as Jeor Mormont on Game of Thrones.

His Dark Materials doesn’t have an exact release date just yet, but season 1 will premiere this fall. It will cover The Northern Lights, the first book in the trilogy (released as The Golden Compass in some regions), with every season thereafter coving another book, for a neat and tidy grand total of three.

By the looks of things, the show will have all the lavish detail one expects from HBO, together with the BBC’s steadying hand. We could be in for something special here.
