The first poster for Disney’s WandaVision looks really weird

Disney dropped an avalanche of information on us at its annual D23 Expo last week. We were so busy gobbling up trailers and new footage that we missed some new posters for two of Disney’s upcoming projects. Let’s look at them now!

First up, we have a rather odd look at the Disney+ series, WandaVision. Starring Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany as Wanda/Scarlett Witch and Vision, little is actually known about the series. The poster, which looks pretty odd, might just gave us an idea of what’s to come.

Courtesy of Marvel concept artist Andy Park, the poster depicts Wanda and Vision enjoying a quaint afternoon in a 1950s-looking home. But behind them, their shadows appear to be wearing their traditional comic book garb.

So what is going on here? We can’t be sure, but we are full of guesses. On screen, Wanda’s powers have lately amounted to her shooting red energy bolts, but in her first appearance back in Avengers: Age of Ultron, she was seen using her powers to warp reality in a way that more closely resembled what she can do in the comics.

Wanda uses those powers to great effect against our heroes on Ultron’s behalf, but who’s to say she can’t use them on herself? Given her great love for Vision, and Vision being — well, dead — perhaps Wanda uses her powers to create a version of reality where she and Vision lived happily ever after. In the comics, Wanda loses her grip on reality after the death of her children; maybe Disney will sub in Vision for her kids and adapt that storyline.

“This @DisneyPlus show is gonna be something totally fresh.. & weird!” Park writes. We’re here for it.

Disney also revealed that WandaVision will debut in the spring of 2021, and will tie in directly to the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. In the comics, Doctor Strange stops Wanda when she loses her sanity, so maybe we’re heading towards a confrontation between the two of them.

Moving on, Park also gave us a first look at the poster for the upcoming Black Widow solo movie. In the ominous poster, we get a look at all the primary characters, from David Harbour’s Red Guardian, to the villainous Taskmaster.

Park showed off another look at Taskmaster — who has a skillset similar to Black Widow’s — in this illustration:

Black Widow will land in theaters on May 1, 2020.
