Peter Capaldi and Pete Davidson join James Gunn’s Suicide Squad

Suicide Squad was a 2016 supervillain movie that everyone hated. Warner Bros. is trying its hand at a sequel/remix/remake, this time called The Suicide Squad, and this time with Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn at the helm, and so far it’s looking like it could turn out a lot better. The casting alone is intriguing enough. For example, Deadline reports that former Doctor Who Peter Capaldi and SNL’s Pete Davidson have now come aboard.

One on hand, we’ve got our feisty, time-traveling Doctor, and on the other, a hilarious comedian prone to unpredictable outbursts and randomly marrying and then splitting up with pop stars. This movie is shaping up to be way more interesting than the first.

While it seems that Capaldi is confirmed, Davidson is only “in talks for a small cameo.” We don’t know who either of them would play yet, but clearly Gunn is amassing some serious comedic firepower. Gunn took this job during the period when he was fired from Disney, so it didn’t start out under the happiest of circumstances, but hopefully it turns into something worth watching. After the first movie, I’m definitely relieved that he’s at the wheel. I think they should just pretend the first movie never exists. Just start fresh, you know?

Capaldi and Davidson will be in good company. The cast also includes the likes of Viola Davis, Nathan Fillion, Joel Kinnaman, Idris Elba, Margot Robbie and more. Rumor has it there will be a table read next week and production will begin soon after at Pinewood Studios in Atlanta, Georgia.
