Amazon is making a show based on Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson’s Wheel of Time series, about…well, there’s no easy way to finish that sentence. There are 14 books, okay? It’s epic fantasy with a capital ‘E.’

The series starts out with Moiraine, a member of an all-female magical organization called the the Aes Sedai, arriving in the region of Two Rivers looking for the Dragon Reborn, a figure of prophecy who can either save or destroy humanity. Amazon has already announced several of the actors playing the main roles. The cast includes people like Josha Straowski, Marcus Rutherford, Zoe Robins, Barney Harris, Madeleine Madden and Oscar nominee Rosamund Pike as Moiraine.

Now, Amazon has announced the actor playing the key character of al’Lan Mandragoran, Lord of the Seven Towers, Lord of the Lakes, True Blade of Malkier, Defender of the Wall of First Fires, Bearer of the Sword of the Thousand Lakes, uncrowned king and only survivor of the royal line of the fallen kingdom of Malkier.

Guy has a lot of names. His friends call him Lan.

That’s Korean-American actor Daniel Henney, known for his work on Hawaii Five-0, Criminal Minds, and if you’re me, as the voice of Tadashi in Big Hero 6. He was also in a CBS drama called Three Rivers, which seems like destiny.

Lan has a close relationship with Moiraine, serving as her Warder, which is a kind of protecter, so it makes sense he’d be included in the early going of the show. Lan is taciturn and shows little emotion outwardly, but has hidden depths.

It looks like the cast for The Wheel of Time is really coming together! Now where are all the announcements about Amazon’s Lord of the Rings show?
