Hobbs & Shaw beats Avengers: Endgame for time at the top of the box office

Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw may have an unwieldy title, but it has serious staying power at the box office. As of this week, according to CBR, the Fast & Furious spinoff has officially snagged the record for the longest run in the #1 spot at the 2019 box office.

In all, the movie has spent four weeks at the top, which may not seem like a lot, but that’s more than Captain MarvelSpider-Man: Far From Home, or even Avengers: Endgame achieved. And if you can beat the Marvel machine at anything, you’re doing something right.

The Fast & Furious movies are hugely successful, although interestingly, they often the great bulk of their box office outside the United States. With the ever-beloved Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson headlining this latest entry, it’s no wonder fans have kept it atop the summer movie slugfest for so long.

And as he often does, the Rock took to social media to share his gratitude and appreciation for the fans who helped the movie break this record, and for helping the franchise attain such a huge level of success:

Of course, just because it’s been at #1 longer doesn’t mean Hobbs & Shaw has actually earned more money than Marvels heavy hitters. A worldwide gross of $688,532,260 is nothing to sneeze at, but Hobbs & Shaw if it wants to come near, say, the $2,796,250,059 that Endgame has collected.
