Westworld season 3 will have fewer episodes than before

When Westworld returns to HBO for its third season at some point in 2020, it will do so with only eight episodes, according to The Wrap. The show’s previous two seasons each consisted of 10 episodes apiece.

The Wrap’s source did not divulge any information about whether the episodes will be longer to make up for the smaller amount. The whole thing reminds me of the debate surrounding the shortened seventh and eighth seasons of Game of Thrones, which had fewer episodes apiece than the first six. Hopefully the shortened episode count won’t hamper the show’s ability to tell a gripping story.

Might it have something to do with showrunners Jonathan and Lisa Joy signing a deal with Amazon Studios and not having as much time to devote to their HBO show? According to programming president Casey Bloys, no. “They are 100% hands on,” Bloys said on the Television Critics Association summer press tour. “We have deals with them for a potential fourth and fifth season. So the deal with them [at Amazon] is for, I believe, everything but Westworld’ And they’re very committed to ‘Westworld.’ So I’m not worried about losing their focus, they don’t lose focus.”

Since then, HBO has officially ordered a fourth season of Westworld. Will eight-episode seasons be the new norm for the show?

Westworld season 3 will see the hosts — led by Evan Rachel Wood’s Dolores — explore The New World world outside of the Delos theme parks: our world. Newcomer Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad) will play Caleb, a construction worker who comes into contact with Dolores.

But we won’t leave the theme park idea behind entirely. The trailer above shows off what looks like a World War II-themed park. There’s no firm release date yet, but we’ll be taking in the new adventures of Dolores, Maeve and company sometime next year.

Next. The Mandalorian will depict the beginnings of the First Order. dark
