HBO announces Watchmen panel for New York Comic Con

Damon Lindelof’s remix of Watchmen, Alan Moore’s classic graphic novel, will make its HBO debut on October 20. Before that, the show will make an appearance with a panel during this year’s New York Comic Con.

The panel will take place on October 4 at 3:45 p.m., as announced in a brief teaser. Check it out:

There are no new scenes in the teaser itself. We’ve got Hooded Justice jumping through a window, Tim Blake Nelson (who’s playing a hero named Looking Glass) pulling on a reflective mask, Doctor Manhattan on Mars, Nite Owl’s ship “Archie” torching a helicopter out of the sky, and a close-up of a blue Doctor Manhattan mask on the ground. It’s all stuff we’ve seen before.

Lindelof’s Watchmen show will take place after the end of Moore’s story…we think. Jeremy Irons plays an older Adrian Veidt/Ozymandias…we’re pretty sure. Likewise, Jean Smart will play an older version of Silk Spectre, now an FBI agent going by the name Laurie Blake. Is Don Johnson playing an older version of Nite Owl, now living under the alias Police Chief Judd Crawford? Lindelof and company have been less than clear.

The police force is battling a group of militants fond of wearing knock-off Rorschach hoods. The cops have to wear masks themselves, to keep their identities and families safe. It’s all part of Lindelof’s plan to comment on racially charged police violence. He has a whole theme going.

Watchmen hits the airwaves in just over a month, but maybe Lindelof and crew will show off a final trailer at NYCC, or a scene, or announce that Alan Moore himself is playing the vice president, or something. Surprise us, HBO.

Of course, that’s not the only panel of interest at NYCC. We’ll also be paying attention to the Outlander panel:

It’s about time to make season 5 announcements, we thinks.
