See how the VFX behind the climatic battle in Avengers: Endgame came together

Avengers: Endgame featured some of the best visual effects we’ve seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or in movies in general, really. Everything leading up to Captain America saying “Avengers Assemble” is something I’ve personally watched countless times.

And it gets even more impressive when you look under the hood. What actually goes into making scenes like this come to life? We can see for ourselves in the video below thanks to Weta Digital, one of several VFX companies that worked on the movie:

Now, I don’t know much about VFX, but I’m always impressed by how much the actors have to imagine when they’re working on set. As you could guess, there’s a lot of green screen work involved in filming that final battle — I particularly like the bit where Drax leaps onto a stuffed green slab and starts stabbing it furiously — but the final product all looks seamless. Isn’t there something mindblowing about how it all comes together?

Of course, what we see on screen is the result of hours of laborious work, by the actors and especially the special effects technicians. But it’s clearly all worth it.
