Yesterday, we got our first indication that production had begun on Amazon’s adaptation of The Wheel of Time, the epic 14-book fantasy series by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson. The other day, cast member Daniel Henney shared an image of a script, indicating that the cast had gathered for a read-through of the first season:
Exciting times!
Now, showrunner Rafe Judkins has given us more info. The cast has indeed gathered together, in Prague, where they’re undergoing costume fittings, read-throughs and rehearsals before shooting gets started in earnest. To mark the occasion, Judkins posted a photo of the seven main cast members together!
Clockwise from the top left, that’s Barney Harris as Mat Cauthon, Marcus Rutherford as Perrin Aybara, Josha Straowski as Rand al’Thor, Daniel Henney as al’Lan Mandragoran, Rosamund Pike as Moiraine, Zoe Robins as Nynaeve al’Meara, and Madeleine Madden as Egwene Al’Vere.
Rutherford is the only one not smiling. Perrin considers all of his actions carefully, so maybe he’s working up to it.

There are, of course, many more characters in The Wheel of Time, but these seven will get us started when the show drops in…let’s say 2021, late 2020 at the earliest.
The Wheel of Time kicks off with Moraine, an Aes Sedai, arriving in the remote community of Two Rivers with al’Lan Mandragoran, her Warder. They’re on the hunt for the Dragon Reborn, a figure of prophecy with the potential to either destroy the world or save it. Could the Dragon Reborn be among the five other characters they’ll meet?
If Amazon can get this right, The Wheel of Time could be a show for the ages. But there are a lot of hurdles to jump before the first season makes it to air, to say nothing of the next…what, 10? At least? We’ll be keeping a watch.
