No, Worf won’t be appearing in Star Trek: Picard
Thanks to CBS All Access, Star Trek is enjoying something of a renaissance. It started with two superb seasons of Star Trek: Discovery and is continuing with an animated series and Star Trek: Picard, which will follow the latter-day adventures of Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart).
Picard is particularly exciting, because it promises to include a lot of fan favorite from earlier series. Among the confirmed returnees are Brent Spiner as Data, Jeri Ryan as Seven of Nine, Jonathan Frakes as William Riker and Marina Sirtis as Deanna Troi. That’s a whole lot of familiar faces, but someone is missing.
There’s been a rumor going around that Michael Dorn would also be returning as the severe Klingon Worf. It started after Picard cinematographer Philip Lanyon shared a picture of a clapboard signed by the cast members, with Dorn’s name among them, slightly above and to the right of Jonathan Frakes’.
Even so, according to Newsweek, a rep for Star Trek: Picard confirmed that Worf will not, in fact, be part of the show. Now that it’s dead, we can mourn this rumor properly:
And if you were wondering what CBS has in store for the future of Star Trek, and where Picard fits into that picture, then let CBS Chief Creative Officer David Nevins, enlighten you. “We really believe in not only serving inside our own ecosystem but serving people outside. What we’re trying to do right now with Star Trek is build that brand. We want it to get younger and more relevant to people.”
Production on Star Trek: Picard recently wrapped. It should drop on CBS All Access at some point in 2020.
