Superfan buys and takes home tree seen on Game of Thrones
By Ariba Bhuvad
Game of Thrones fans are hardcore. But we knew that already, didn’t we? That’s why it comes as no surprise that a superfan from Northern Ireland — Sean McBride — has taken his love for the show to a new level.
According to Metro, McBride bought and took home a tree from the Dark Hedges, a tree-lined path in Northern Ireland that stood in for the Kingsroad on Game of Thrones, as you can see above. Gendry and Arya stole down this path in the season 2 premiere, back when Arya was pretending to be a boy, and tourists have been coming ever since.
The tree was felled in a storm. McBride, who enlisted his two sons to help him with his haul, paid “thousands of pounds” to take home this very singular piece of Game of Thrones memorabilia. His love for the series started when scenes were filmed on his land in Ballycastle, County Antrim.

Thanks to its exposure on the show, Northern Ireland has been the destination of choice for many fans over the years. The tourism has been great for the area’s economy, although there are concerns that the heavy influx of people is contributing to the slow death of the Dark Hedges, which were planted in 1775 to line the entrance to the Stuart family’s Gracehill House mansion. Still, there’s nothing like arriving at the Dark Hedges and channeling your inner Arya Stark and striking a pose.
