A bird? A plane? Nah, it’s Tom Welling as Superman in Crisis on Infinite Earths!

Tom Welling is donning that iconic Superman cape once again! Entertainment Weekly reports that Welling will return as Clark Kent/Superman in the upcoming CW superhero crossover, “Crisis on Infinite Earths”.

To backtrack a little, the CW is known to cross over their superhero shows every year. But there’s something very special about this year. Not only is it the final season of Arrow, but every single one of the CW superhero shows is going to be included in this crossover. This includes Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, and Batwoman. It’s going to be epic, guys. Epic.

The reason why the internet is currently freaking out over Welling is because he’s reprising his role as Clark Kent from his Smallville days, which aired back on The CW’s predecessor, The WB. Because the Crisis storyline involves multiple Earths, Welling will play one of three Supermen we’ll see. Along with Welling, we have Tyler Hoechlin, who plays Superman on Supergirl, and Brandon Routh, who played the hero in Superman Returns.

I don’t know how the CW is pulling this off, but they are going all in!

If you watched Smallville, you’ll be happy to know that we’ll find out what Welling’s Superman has been up to in the years since his show ended. I think I can hear all the fans out there screaming with excitement in unison.

Marc Guggenheim, the executive producer behind the crossover event, sounds enthusiastic about Welling coming on board, and I think we can all agree with him.

"For eight years, Arrow has stood on the shoulders of Smallville. Simply put, there would be no Arrow, and no Arrowverse, without it. So when we first started talking about Crisis on Infinite Earths, our first, second and third priorities were getting Tom to reprise his iconic role as Clark Kent. To say that we’re thrilled would be a Superman-sized understatement."

“Understatement” is an understatement, if you ask me.

The coolest part about all of this is that it’s showing how all the DC shows (excluding current streaming shows) are connected. The return of Tom Welling solidifies this. We also know that a handful of other DC TV heroes will be appearing in some capacity:

  • Burt Ward, who starred in the 1960s Batman series
  • Kevin Conroy from Batman: The Animated Series
  • The addition of Black Lightning (we didn’t know if they were a part of this universe, but now we do!)
  • Batwoman, who is taking us into the future of DCTV

None of us want to miss a single second of all, of this so here’s a breakdown of when all the crossover episodes air:

  • Supergirl on Sunday, Dec. 8
  • Batwoman on Monday, Dec. 9
  • The Flash on Tuesday, Dec. 10.
  • Arrow on Tuesday, Jan. 14
  • DC’s Legends of Tomorrow on Tuesday, Jan. 14

I think you will all agree with me when I say this is going to be one hell of an event.
