Peter Dinklage wins fourth Emmy for Game of Thrones!
By Dan Selcke
Peter Dinklage has won his FOURTH Emmy for playing Tyrion Lannister on Game of Thrones, beating out fellow Thrones stars Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Alfie Allen. Congratulations!
The field, as it was:
Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Drama Series
- Better Call Saul — Jonathan Banks as Mike Ehrmantraut
- Better Call Saul — Giancarlo Esposito as Gus Fring
- Game of Thrones — Alfie Allen as Theon Greyjoy
- Game of Thrones — Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Jamie Lannister
- Game of Thrones — Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister
- House of Cards — Michael Kelly as Doug Stamper
- This Is Us — Chris Sullivan as Toby Damon
Dinklage has been here before, but he seems no less emotional about it, particularly because it’s the end. “I count myself so fortunate to be a member of a community that is all about tolerance and diversity, because in no other place would I be standing on a stage like this,” he said. I also loved his description of his Game of Thrones experience and working with showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss:
"Ten years of absolute sweat, but 10 years of the most incredible, talented, funniest, [EXPLETIVE DELETED] — hey, it’s over, I don’t care — I have ever been lucky enough to work with. We did nothing but sweat, we did nothing but laugh. David and Dan, we literally walked through fire and ice for you, literally, and I would do it all again in a heartbeat."
What did he say to get bleeped? Look out for the Emmys director’s cut.
True, Dinklage was the predictable choice for this category — the Emmys often work on momentum — but I’m happy he took home the gold once again. And I am decidedly UNhappy that none of the Game of Thrones stars up for Outstanding Supporting Actress took home any hardware — I mean, they made up over half the category — but we all have to live with disappointment sometimes. Wear it like armor and it can never be used to hurt you, as Tyrion would say.
Congrats again to Dinklage and to all the winners, and the nominees!
