The Good Place stars recap this very complicated sitcom

The Good Place has to be the most lore-heavy sitcom ever created, right? Seinfeld is about four morally bankrupt New Yorkers who destroy lives and make us laugh. Friends is about friends, The Office is about an office, but The Good Place

Well, it starts off being about a woman, Eleanor Shellstrop (Kristin Bell), who gets into heaven mistakenly. Only no, because we learn it’s not heaven at all, but a special kind of hell where bad people are made to think they’re in paradise so they can torture each other, all under the watchful eye of the demon Michael (Ted Danson).

But then the humans keep figuring out the game, and eventually Michael joins them, and they leave the bad good place, and they meet more people — human and afterlife-born both — and they return to Earth, and they figure out something’s wrong with the point system that determines where you go when you die, and there’s romance and memory loss and it’s a whole thing.

You know what? In advance of the show returning for its fourth and final season this week, just listen to the cast members recap their thing:

I love how dense The Good Place is and I’m very much looking forward to taking in the final season when it starts on NBC on Thursday, September 26. Sure, part of me wants it to go longer, but that’s one of the things that separates The Good Place from a lot of other sitcoms: it’s telling a story with a beginning, middle and end, rather than resetting everything at the end of the episode. Take us home!
