Jeffrey Wright, Jonah Hill in talks for The Batman

From a sparkly vampire to the Dark Knight, former Twilight Saga star Robert Pattinson will play Bruce Wayne, aka Batman, in director Matt Reeves’ take on the Caped Crusader. The movie started pre-production this summer, and according to Deadline, both Jeffrey Wright (Westworld) and Jonah Hill (Superbad) are currently in talks to appear.

If things go according to plan, Wright will play Commissioner James Gordon, the policeman who befriends Batman and is responsible for lighting the Bat-Signal when Gotham needs him most. And I’m all for that; Wright is a solid actor who can do pretty much anything.

As for Hill, his potential role in the movie is still a bit mysterious, with Deadline reporting that he’s in line to play a villain.

We’ve heard that Pattinson’s Batman may face off against the Penguin in the film, and many are wondering if Hill is being considered for that role. I’m not a fan of the idea. Pattison is a fairly serious actor, and it’s all I can do not to laugh when I try to imagine the Penguin as a genuine threat to him.

All I can think of is Danny Devito in the sewers of Gotham, feeding penguins and killing his clown henchmen for daring to ask questions. If Jonah Hill does become the Penquin in The Batman, let’s hope Matt Reeves gives him an update. Maybe they’ll go more the route that Fox took with the character in Gotham. I could get on board with that.
