Neill, Dern and Goldblum to return for Jurassic World 3

The third Jurassic World movie is slated to premiere in the summer of 2021, and Deadline has confirmed that three of the stars of 1993’s Jurassic Park, the dinosaur disaster movie that started it all, will return: Sam Neill (paleontologist Alan Grant), Laura Dern (paleobotanist Ellie Sattler) and Jeff Goldblum (mathematician Ian Malcom).

Universal is already pumping up the hype: last week, the studio released an eight-minute short film by the movie’s director Colin Treverrow, titled Battle at Big Rock. The teaser stars André Holland (Castle Rock) and shows people and dinosaurs sharing an uneasy coexistence prior to the surely catastrophic events of Jurassic World 3.

Stick around for the credit roll, which is the best part.

Neill, Dern and Goldblum have all come back for earlier sequels, with Neill and Dern appearing in 2001’s Jurassic Park III and Goldblum headlining The Lost World (1997) and Fallen Kingdom (2018). It’s unclear if the three veteran actors will have important roles in the new film, or just whiz by in much-ballyhooed but ultimately brief cameos.

Jurassic World regulars Chris Pratt (Owen Grady), Bryce Dallas Howard (Claire Dearing) and Isabella Sermon (Maisie Lockwood) will all be back for more T-Rex terrors when Jurassic World 3 crashes into theaters on June 11, 2021.

What do we know about Jurassic World 3? Not much, thus far. We know Steven Spielberg is executive producing, and that Trevorrow, who wrote Jurassic World and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, will direct and co-write the screenplay with Emily Carmichael (Pacific Rim: Uprising).

As for the plot, Deadline speculates that the dinosaurs who escaped from the Lockwood estate at the end of Fallen Kingdom might end up in a battle for world domination against the human race. Sounds logical. They were here first, after all.
