In two days, Disney will celebrate Triple Force Friday, a special day that comes every fall dedicated to Star Wars merch.
All over the country, major retailers will open their doors in the wee hours of the morning to allow excited fans to rush in and pick the toy shelves clean of their favorite Star Wars figurines, games, books and more. Lines of people will wrap around buildings like a chain around Jabba the Hutt’s neck. It’s a big deal.
This year, Disney is going big…ger than usual. Instead of promoting one new film, the Mouse will release merchandise from three major Star Wars titles: Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, The Mandalorian, and the video game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. It’s going to be insane.
I attended the very first Force Friday during the leadup The Force Awakens in 2015. It was like every horror stories you’ve heard about Black Friday multiplied by 100 and given a blaster. Grown adult men in Jedi and Sith robes wielding cheap plastic lightsabers were pushing children out of the way so they could be the first to get their greedy mitts on a Kylo Ren mask or action figure. I can’t imagine the level of mayhem that awaits for this year’s event.
And thanks to the miracle of modern technology, I won’t have to! To celebrate the occasion, StarWars.com will livestream the event, and include footage of the stars of The Rise of Skywalker, The Mandalorian, and Jedi: Fallen Order unboxing all the new toys being released. Luckily for them, they’re doing it from the safety and comfort of London’s Pinewood Studios. Meanwhile, an apocalyptic war will be raging at Disney stores and Walmarts across the world as people tear each other limb from limb for a coveted plush porg.
I wonder what Game of Thrones star Pedro Pascal saw in that box that gave him a full-on nerdgasm.
The livestream will be hosted by Star Wars icon Warwick Davis (Wicket the Ewok) and will feature appearances from several Episode IX cast members, including Daisy Ridley (Rey), John Boyega (Finn), Oscar Isaac (Poe), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian), Joonas Suotamo (the new Chewbacca), Keri Russell (Zorii), Naomi Ackie (Jannah) and Kelly Marie Tran (Rose).
STAR WARS THE BLACK SERIES 6-INCH SITH TROOPER Figure – in-pck (1). Hasbro official.
Gina Carano (Cara Dune) will appear alongside Pascal, representing The Mandalorian. Shameless star Cameron Monaghan (the voice of Cal Kestis in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order) will be on hand as well.
