New York City Comic kicks off in just a couple days. Outside of San Diego Comic-Con, it’s the biggest pop culture event of the year; depending on who you ask, it might even be bigger.

There will be plenty to see there, but one of the things I’m most excited for is the world premiere of the fourth season of The Expanse, an excellent science fiction show with a lot of political overtones — think of it as Game of Thrones in space.

The Expanse used to be on SyFy, but was cancelled after its third season. Amazon swooped in with a save, and all 10 episodes of season 4 will drop at once on December 13.

BUT, if you’re at NYCC this Saturday, you can see the season 4 premiere early on the New York Comic Con Main Stage! After that, fans can stick around for a Q&A with “special guests.”

Generally speaking, the first three seasons of The Expanse have been about the tensions between people living on Earth, on Mars, and on the asteroid belt. But at the end of season 3, wormholes opened up to different parts of the universe. Now, there will be tensions between the groups as they try and settle the planet of Ilus. “While Earthers, Martians and Belters maneuver to colonize Ilus and its natural resources, tensions rise between the opposing nations, but these early explorers don’t understand the true threat of this new world and are unaware of the larger dangers that await them,” reads the New York Comic Con description for season 4.

There will also be a fully immersive Expanse experience that will take fans aboard the Rocinante, the ship our heroes to get around the solar system.

I’m glad to see Amazon is putting some weight behind this series!
