Watch The Wheel of Time cast read through the first episode!

Amazon has begun production on its adaptation of Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson’s Wheel of Time series, a 14-book epic fantasy saga featuring dozens of characters, a rich mythology and a lot of scenes we can’t begin to wonder how they’ll translate to film. Settle in, everyone; we could be here for a while.

Amazon has been doing a great job of marketing the show as it gets off the ground. Not long ago, showrunner Rafe Judkins shared a picture of the cast together for the table read:

Clockwise from the top left, that’s Barney Harris as Mat Cauthon, Marcus Rutherford as Perrin Aybara, Josha Straowski as Rand al’Thor, Daniel Henney as al’Lan Mandragoran, Rosamund Pike as Moiraine, Zoe Robins as Nynaeve al’Meara, and Madeleine Madden as Egwene Al’Vere.

Now, the official Wheel of Time Twitter account has uploaded a video of the lot of them — plus some other actors — reading from the premiere episode. Check it out!

The first Wheel of Time book, The Eye of the World, came out way back in 1990, and there have been a lot of fans waiting for a very long time to hear actors give voice to these characters. Things sound like they’re going smoothly, with Pike sounding authoritative as Moiraine and Harris cracking the room up as Mat. Tor points out that there could be other characters the actors for which haven’t been announced yet — is that Marin al’Vere and Daise Congar next to Harris? Do we see Master Luhhan and Tamlin al’Thor?

For all the love The Wheel of Time show has been getting, we’ve relatively little about Amazon’s other big budget fantasy epic: its take on The Lord of the Rings. Will we start seeing table reads and cast photos from that soon?
