Here’s how Tom Holland got Spider-Man back into the MCU

Remember when Sony and Marvel had a very public breakup and Sony took Spider-Man and went home, disallowing the character from appearing again in movies set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Those were some dark days.

Luckily, that didn’t last long. Sony and Marvel made nice, meaning that Spider-Man was once again an Avenger and that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige could once again lend his producing expertise to Sony’s solo Spider-Man efforts! But how did it happen? What powerful — possibly even superheroic — force yoked these two mega-corporations back together?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, it was none other than Tom Holland himself. Sources say that Holland made “multiple appeals” to both Disney CEO Bob Iger and Sony boss Tom Rothman to set aside their differences and let Spider-Man play in both of their sandboxes. As of right now, the deal is that Feige will help produce a third solo Spider-Man movie with Holland in the lead, of which Disney/Marvel will receive 25% of the gross, as well as chip in 25% of the budget.) On the Marvel side, Holland’s Spider-Man can appear in at least one more non-solo-Spider-Man MCU film. And hopefully there will be more after that.

Spider-Man 3: Welcome Home Again (?) hits theaters on July 16, 2021.

Next. Lucasfilm: Multiple Star Wars movies per year isn’t going to work. dark
