Natalie Dormer looks nigh-unrecognizable on the set of Penny Dreadful, and other stuff
All the Game of Thrones stars are either getting new trailers or new gigs today! Let’s see what they’re up to.
First up, Dean-Charles Chapman (Tommen Baratheon) plays the lead role of Pte. Blake in 1917, a World War I-era drama about a fresh-faced soldier (of course they got Tommen to play that part) looking for his brother on the battlefield. Check out the trailer:
Richard Madden is in 1917, too, so maybe we can get that Tommen-Robb Stark meeting no one particularly asked for but would still be neat to see. The movie comes out this December.
Also in trailers, Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth) is in a new movie from Armando Iannucci, the satiric genius behind shows like In the Thick of It and Veep. The Personal History of David Copperfield is a Charles Dickens adaptation, but with that recognizable Iannucci bite:
Gwendoline Christie plays Jane Murdstone. Sure, she’s barely in the trailer but it still looks fun.

Cersei Lannister has a new gig. Actor Lena Headey will be headlining a new Showtime dramedy called Rita, about “a headstrong, unconventional teacher and single mother who takes on every kind of authority – as well as her family – in a messy and unfiltered way.” According to The Wrap, showrunner Christian Torpe has snagged The Kids Are All Right director Lisa Cholodenko to direct the pilot.
Headey was always a stand-out on Game of Thrones, so I can’t wait to see what she can do with a lead role. She’s more than earned it.

Sticking with TV, Natalie Dormer (Margaery Tyrell) is going to play a demoness named Magda in Penny Dreadful: City of Angels, a revival of the popular supernatural Showtime show. In a 1920s-style bob wig and simple skirt and vest, she looks all but unrecognizable from her days of Margaery, but it’s her:
And finally, Emilia Clarke’s (Daenerys Targaryen) new romantic comedy, Last Christmas, is going to feature a never-before-heard George Michael song!
The whole movie is festooned is George Michael songs — it’s basically a jokebox musical without musical numbers — but the new song is new news. Here’s the full tracklist, according to Billboard:
- “Last Christmas”
- “Too Funky”
- “Fantasy”
- “Praying For Time”
- “Faith”
- “Waiting For That Day”
- “Heal The Pain”
- “One More Try”
- “Fastlove Part1”
- “Everything She Wants”
- “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go”
- “Move On”
- “Freedom! ‘90”
- “Praying For Time” (MTV Unplugged version)
- “This Is How (We Want You To Get High)” – Previously Unreleased
Last Christmas hits theaters on November 8, in plenty of time for Christmas.
