The Art of Game of Thrones book shows scene cut from series finale

Insight Editions and HBO are teaming up to produce a series of glossy coffee table books all about Game of Thrones. You’ve got Game of Thrones: The Storyboards ($60), The Photography of Game of Thrones ($75), and Game of Thrones: The Costumes ($75)…and of course, there’s The Art of Game of Thrones ($75), which shows off concept art from all eight seasons.

For the most part, the art depicts scenes and places we actually saw or visited. But not every scene dreamed up by the writers and concept artists actually gets filmed, or if it does, maybe it ends up on the cutting room floor. Such is the case with a scene from the series finale, “The Iron Throne,” where Jon Snow walks through a row of Unsullied soldiers on his way out of the Red Keep.

That pic from Insider, which is posting excerpts from the book. “This concept art depicts Jon Snow, having left Tyrion, departing the Red Keep” reads the book’s caption. “Unsullied soldiers guard below, in a shot used in the episode.”

Only no, the shot wasn’t used in the episode. Maybe it was cut because it doesn’t make a ton of sense. Insider interprets the shot as Jon leaving the Red Keep, presumably after Tyrion talks to him and convinces him to kill Daenerys. But that’s curious, because Jon kills Dany in the Red Keep throne room. Maybe he left through one entrance, walked around, and entered through another?

It’s all a little confusing. Better to do it the way the show does it, where we skip Jon walking out of wherever he was and go right to him finding Drogon buried in the snow.
