Check out this behind-the-scenes image from the Avatar sequel!

Production on the long-awaited sequels to 2009’s Avatar is finally underway, and the film’s official Twitter account has shared a behind-the-scenes image of director James Cameron in the middle of filming what looks like a pretty epic scene.
Fire, waves and a 3D camera; we’d expect nothing less from our return to Pandora. If I didn’t know any better, that almost looks like a scene from one of Cameron’s other box office giants, Titanic. I love the dude sitting to the side on a pool noodle.
Cameron and company are filming Avatar 2 and 3 back to back, with the first sequel coming out on December 17, 2021. After that, we can expect another film every two years until Avatar 5 hits theaters sometime in 2027. Talk about ambitious.
Returning cast members include Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Joel David Moore, Dileep Rao, Stephen Lang, Matt Gerald and Sigourney Weaver (yes, her character died in the first movie; she’s playing someone new here). There are also several new additions, including Kate Winslet, Edie Falco, Michelle Yeoh, Vin Diesel, Jemaine Clement and Game of Thrones veteran Oona Chaplin.
The sequels will expand the universe Cameron first visited back in 2009, but the real question is: will any of them be able to reclaim the title of box office king? For a while, Avatar was the highest-grossing movie in history, until it was dethroned by Avengers: Endgame. With four shots to reclaim the crown, we could be in for a back-and-forth. Either way, Walt Disney, which now owns the Avatar franchise following its purchase of 20th Century Fox, will be laughing all the way to the bank.
While we’re talking about behind-the-scenes images, Jamie Lee Curtis shared one from her first day on set for the sequel to last year’s soft reboot of the Halloween franchise. It looks like Laurie Strode is having a rough day:
Couldn’t have filmed an easy scene first, guys?
The sequel, aptly titled Halloween Kills, takes place two years after the last film, and will at least partially feature Haddonfield Memorial Hospital, last seen in 1981’s Halloween II. Halloween Kills is set to hit theaters on October 16, 2020.
