Game of Thrones language creator David J. Peterson — the guy behind languages like Dothraki and Valyrian — has taken on a similar role over on Netflix’s The Witcher show. In a tweet that flew way below the radar at San Diego Comic-Con in July, Peterson tagged The Witcher’s showrunner, Lauren S. Hissrich.
Fast forward to this month and Peterson confirmed that he worked on The Witcher in a thread where he announced that he’s now working on Netflix’s adaptation of Shadow and Bone — the guy is very in demand since Game of Thrones.
It’s fun to see Peterson getting so much work, and to see so many shows requiring the services of a conlanger. There are plenty of languages in world of The Witcher, from the Elder Speech to Gnomish to Vran to Vodyan to Vampire, so Peterson should have — or had, I guess — his work cut out for him.
Moving on, the second man to play Daario Naharis (Michiel Huisman) has joined the cast of The Flight Attendant, a new show coming to HBO Max. According to Variety, the show will follow a flight attendant named Cassie (Kaley Cuoco), who wakes up next to a dead man in the wrong hotel.
Cuoco is best known for playing Penny on The Big Bang Theory, but this is clearly…different. Huisman will play “Alex, a charming, wealthy businessman who runs into some serious bad luck in Bangkok and ends up sticking with Cassie longer than expected.”
Finally, several Game of Thrones stars have joined the cast of an all-new true-crime story based on the White House Farm murders. The Greyjoy siblings reunite — Gemma Whelan (Yara) and Alfie Allen (Theon) — as well as Mark Stanley (Grenn) and Mark Addy (King Robert Baratheon).
“This is an incredibly compelling true-crime story, but it’s the human dimension of these events that gripped my imagination, particularly after reading Colin Caffell’s book,” writer Kris Mrksa said in a statement. “So much discussion of the case has focussed on contested legal details, but I wanted to tell this story in a way that did justice to the devastating emotional truth of what happened.”
