Succession 207 Shiv. Zach Dilgard:HBO
Episode 209: “DC”
The Roys go to Washington, D.C. to defend Waystar Royco from an aggressive congressional oversight investigation into the company’s cruise line. Tom gets drilled and can’t retain his cool, and Greg seriously doubts his decision to choose Logan over his grandfather and $25 million of inheritance money. Let’s get into it.
Winners:
- Roman is sent by his father to make a deal with a huge “sovereign nation” company to privately acquire Waystar. The deal would make the company untouchable and Roman — after hilariously sitting through what he thinks is a hostage negotiation — seemingly comes out on top. We’ll see how well he did in next week’s finale.
- Shiv comes back to the winner’s circle with her takedown of Rhea Jarrell now complete. Shiv expertly let Rhea be the face of the cruise line disaster, then swooped in and saved the day by silencing a whistleblower…for now.
- Kendall kicked ass in his appearance in front of Congress. He was on point in his replies and really went on the attack against senators trying to topple the family company.
- Conner seemed to get to some love for his presidential campaign. We’ll see how it plays out next week.
Losers:
- Tom and Greg got absolutely roasted in front of Congress.
- Rhea lost everything in this episode after being outmaneuvered by Shiv.
- Logan lands on the loser’s list because he came away from his appearance as a doddering old man who looks like he’s losing his mind. Points for calling Rhea “fungible” though. I admit to having to look that word up.
Next week’s season finale will explore how the Roy family comes out of this cruise scandal. Did Roman land a deal to save the company? Will Shiv be named the CEO? And who is the “blood sacrifice” Logan is talking about?
