The cast of The Batman, director Matt Reeves’ new project about the Caped Crusader, is coming together. We’ve got Twilight star Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, and now, Paul Dano as the Riddler. Probably.
Variety reports that Dano, who’s turned in terrific performances in movies like There Will Be Blood and 12 Years A Slave, is in talks to play Gotham City’s most quizzical supervillain. This news comes on the same day that we heard that Jonah Hill rejected an offer to play a villain in the movie. Now, we can probably assume that villain was the Riddler, unless Reeves is gonna go crazy and pile on Batman with three baddies in one movie.
Dano is a talented guy. That baby face of his hides some serious, sometimes disturbing energy. I’m sure he’ll be able to pull off the role of a narcissist who can’t help but leave clues to his own crimes. Featuring the Riddler also fits with what Reeves has said about wanting this movie to focus more on Batman’s skills as a detective, something that’s never really taken center stage in any of the many Batman movies made over the years.
As for Kravitz, former Catwoman Michelle Pfeiffer has some simple but crucial advice for her. “Make sure whilst designing the costume they consider how you’re going to go to the bathroom,” she said on Good Morning America. “Minor detail.”
How she managed that in her Catwoman costume from Batman Returns, I have no idea.
The Batman is scheduled to hit theaters on June 25, 2021.
