Watch the official trailer for The Crown season 3
By Dan Selcke
Netflix has dropped the trailer for the third season of The Crown, its epic history of the life of Queen Elizabeth II. Watch below!
In the first two seasons of The Crown, the queen was played by Claire Foy, with Matt Smith as her husband Philip and Vanessa Kirby as her rebellious sister Margaret. For season 3, we’re skipping ahead to the 1970s, with Oscar winner Olivia Colman as the queen, Game of Thrones vet Tobias Menzies, and Helena Bonham Carter as Margaret. The Queen’s kids will play a bigger role as well; you can see Josh O’Connor as Prince Charles in there.
Other cast members include Charles Dance — Tywin Lannister himself — as Lord Louis Mountbatten, Emerald Fennell as Camilla Parker-Bowles, Emma Corrin as Princess Diana and Gillian Anderson as Margaret Thatcher. I’m particularly looking forward to seeing how Scully from The X-Files does as Britain’s second most famous prime minister, but that will have to wait for another trailer.
As for the queen herself, it sounds like she’s going through it. “This country was great when I came to the throne,” she says in the trailer. “All that’s happened on my watch is the place has fallen apart.” The times are a changing, indeed.
The Crown has always been a sumptuous treat for the Anglophiles in the audience, lavishly produced and stacked high with excellent British actors…and also John Lithgow. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but I’ll be looking forward to season 3 when it drops on November 3.
