AMC Theaters is hosting a 27-hour Star Wars marathon before episode IX
On December 18, participating AMC Theaters will host a special Star Wars event. For 27 hours and 21 minutes, fans will watch every film in the Skywalker Saga, in chronological order from Episode I: The Phantom Menace through Episode VIII: The Last Jedi.
Your reward, should you choose to put yourself through 27 hours of screaming babies and angry fanboys, will be watching The Rise of Skywalker an hour early, which will be around 5:00 p.m. local time. If you’ve already avoided spoilers that long, you’ll be in the home stretch.
If 27 hours doesn’t quite add up to you, AMC is factoring in time for bathroom breaks and such, so no need to break out the catheters and adult diapers.
Anyway, Rogue One and Solo: A Star Wars Story won’t be included in the marathon, which if you ask me is robbing fans of seeing how key events in the Star Wars universe fit into place even when they aren’t part of the main saga. I mean, can you imagine ending Rogue One — with Princess Leia’s Tantive IV escaping Darth Vader — then immediately picking up with Episode IV: A New Hope? That’s how I like to binge my Star Wars movies, anyway, but I digress.
Everyone who attends the marathon will receive a commemorative pin, blanket and “a concession offer.”
AMC is also holding a fan event on December 19, opening night. Those in attendance will get a collector’s pin, as well as a “$5+ tax Cameo Combo coupon in your receipt email.” So you can’t even use the coupon while you’re there? Who am I kidding, I’ll probably see The Rise of Skywalker about three or four times in the theater.
So what might a 27-hour movie marathon be like? SyFy’s Marc Bernardin chronicled his misadventures while attending an Avengers marathon before the opening of Endgame. I highly suggest you give it a read, but I just want to leave this quote from him here: “2:58AM: Popcorn farts.”
