We still don’t have an exact release date for Netflix’s The Witcher, but based on the amount of information Netflix is releasing, I’d expect one pretty soon.
Just the other day, new official stills from the fantasy drama showed up in the Italian publication Corriere. Today, yet more turned up in io9. Let’s take a look!

First up, we have lead character Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill) preparing to fight soldiers in a castle hall. Geralt is a witcher, which means he spends most of his time hunting monsters, but he gets involved in court intrigue, too. This photo looks like it’s from the short story “A Question of Price,” which involves Geralt being invited to the country of Cintra by Queen Calanthe, who is having some issues with her daughter Pavetta. I don’t want to say too much in case you’re a Witcher newbie and want to remain unspoiled, but we can also see part of this story in the trailer for the first season.
Psst: skip to 1:12.

Next, we have a behind-the-scenes photos of extras portraying villagers. Notice actor Freya Allan in the little red hat. She’s playing Ciri, the princess of Cintra and Pavetta’s daughter, so it looks like we’re still in Cintra, but on the streets this time.
In the books, we don’t really meet Ciri until Geralt does, but in the show, it looks like we’ll get more insight into what she was doing before she goes on the run.

And why does she go on the run? Because war comes to Cintra in the form of the Nilfgaardian army. Above, we see the king of Cintra, Eist Tuirseach, battling a Nilfgaardian soldier. Long story short, it doesn’t go well, and Ciri is set adrift.

For the rest, you can watch the show. Or get the books.
