Patty Jenkins, the director of next summer’s Wonder Woman 1984, has confirmed on Twitter who Game of Thrones star Pedro Pascal will be playing in the movie. On Thursday, the director of the first Wonder Woman film tweeted a picture of DC character Maxwell Ward, tagging Pascal and Wonder Woman herself, Gal Gadot.

The tweet ends a year and a half worth of fan-speculation about Pascal would actually be playing.

Man, talk about one heck of a successful post-Game of Thrones career (although, he was a well-established actor before his turn as Prince Oberyn Martell in season 4). Pedro Pascal is going to play the titular character in the first-ever live-action Star Wars television show on Disney+ — The Mandalorian, and now he’s starring in what is sure to be a very successful DCEU film.

Anyway, Pascal’s character — Maxwell Lord — was first introduced to DC comics as a sleazeball businessman who turned out to be a good guy. He has a telepathic power that allows him to “nudge” or convince people to do what he wants. Eventually, he became the manager, of sorts, of the Justice League.

However, in the 2005 Countdown to Crisis #1, he was re-written as a supervillain. His telepathic power was super-amped, and he even mind-controlled Superman once and convinced him to attack his allies.

So, will Pascal play the bad version of Lord, or will he be the good one? For now, there is no confirmation, but I’d wager he’ll be the antagonist of the film, using his telepathic powers to influence Wonder Woman, or even her long-thought-dead love interest, Steve Trevor (Chris Pine).

Wonder Woman 1984 hits theaters on July 5, 2020.
