Game of Thrones ended months ago, and now, Brewery Ommegang is bidding goodbye to the series with the final beer in its long-running line of Westeros-themed beverages: the My Watch Has Ended imperial brown ale.
"My Watch Has Ended is brewed with two-row base malt, specialty grains such as oat flakes and chocolate malt, plus maple syrup and fenugreek, an herb with a maple-like aroma and flavor. Hopped with Hallertau Magnum and Styrian Golding varietals and fermented with an English ale yeast, with aromas of sweet maple and caramelized sugar, the beer pours a rich mahogany. Notes of cocoa and toffee and a smooth, velvety mouthfeel finish dry, with gently smoldering roast."
At 8% ABV, this beer packs a nice punch without being overwhelming, and runs for a suggested retail price of $11.99/bottle. It’s out this fall!
So the big question: is this drink a worthy finish to Ommegang’s tireless efforts to transport our taste buds to the world of ice and fire? In a word, yes. I first sampled the beer with FanSided’s Mia Johnson on the most recent episode of Take the Black Live. I liked it then and I liked it now:
This was our Halloween episode, if you couldn’t tell. I certainly don’t go to the grocery store dressed as a one-eyed bee keeper. Nope. Nuh-uh.
Anyway, as I say above, what I like about this beer is the dessert notes. I like the tastes of cocoa, maple syrup and caramelized sugar. This is a warm, calming, friendly beer that finishes clean and crisp, an affectionate way to say goodbye to the series, and to Ommegang’s dedications to it.

Not that the beers are going anywhere. In addition to the My Watch Is Ended imperial ale, Ommegang is also releasing a Collector’s Edition pack featuring the Take the Black Stout, the Fire and Blood Red Ale, and the Winter is Here Double Wit, plus a commemorative glass. They’ll all be available in time for the deluxe Game of Thrones boxset coming in early December.
