Today, everything is coming up The Witcher. First, Netflix released a new trailer for the series, which stars Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, a professional monster hunter making his way in a world where the people can be worse than the beasts:

Now, TheWitcher.TV brings us some glossy new photos from the series, including some of Geralt from the pilot:

The pilot episode will be based on the short story “The Lesser Evil” from The Last Wish, the first book in Andrzej Sapkowski’s Witcher series. It looks like the first season of the show will adapt The Last Wish and its follow-up book, Sword of Destiny, most of which are comprised of loosely related short stories.

“The Lesser Evil” involves Geralt having a run-in with a revenge-fueled gang leader named Renfri (Emma Appleton), seen above. It should be a good introduction to the morally murky world of the series.

But Geralt isn’t the only character we’ll be meeting. Another pillar of the series is Princess Cirilla, commonly known as Ciri (Freya Allan):

Without spoiling too much, Ciri’s cushy-but-cloistered life gets rather violently shook up and she has to go on the run. Here she is meeting Dara, a new character invented for the show:

And finally we have Yennefer (Anya Chalotra), strong-willed sorceress who takes absolutely no crap from anyone:

The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny both mainly follow Geralt, but Lauren Hissrich has beefed up Ciri and Yennefer’s roles so we have a little more variety. We don’t see Yennefer protect Queen Kalis of Lyria (Isobel Laidler) in the books, but we will in the show:

And it looks like Chalotra got behind the camera for an episode, too!

The Witcher kicks off on December 20!

Next. The Batman has found its Commissioner Gordon: Jeffrey Wright. dark
