Doctor Who star Jodie Whittaker is adorable to watch when Coldplay surprise her

There’s a clip now online of Doctor Who star Jodie Whittaker being surprised by two members of Coldplay, and her reaction as a complete and total fangirl is glorious to see.
You may have heard that, for BBC telethon Children in Need, an album has been released featuring a bunch of covers from a wide variety of actors, several of which have appeared in Doctor Who, including Olivia Coleman, David Tennant and Jodie Whittaker.
The last example has given us a moment of sheer joy. Yes, Whittaker’s cover of Yellow by Coldplay is really nice to hear, especially as she sings it with more than a hint of her Yorkshire accent.
But it’s a clip showing the making of the song that’s really brilliant. Because Whittaker – a massive Coldplay fan, as the clip below clearly shows – is joined by Jonny Buckland and Will Champion from Coldplay. Better still, they left it as a complete surprise that they’d be working on the song with her. So, as you can guess, her reaction is priceless!

Pure joy
Regardless of how I personally feel about the current era, there’s no question that this clip is simply gorgeous to watch. There are many reasons why I love being a fan myself, but even better is watching the fandom of others, regardless of what they’re fans of. Because, when truly special moments like this come along, seeing their reaction is just an absolute joy. And Jodie Whittaker’s reaction in the above clip is a perfect example of that.
It’s also great to see Buckland and Champion get plenty of enjoyment out of recording this cover, too. Especially as they seem to love the idea of recording with the Doctor almost as much as Whittaker loves singing with Coldplay. (Seriously, her reaction when they start playing is, frankly, too precious.) A genuinely golden moment of fandom from the Doctor herself.
