Game of Thrones stars STILL debating who’s to blame for that coffee cup
By Dan Selcke
There was a lot of good acting in the final season of Game of Thrones. Peter Dinklage won an Emmy, while Emilia Clarke, Kit Harington, Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Gwendoline Christie, Lena Headey, Alfie Allen and Carice van Houten were all nominated. But at this point, it seems pretty clear that the breakout star of the season was the errant coffee cup spotted during the feast in “The Last of the Starks,” because people cannot seem to stop talking about it.
About a week ago, it looked like Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen) had finally put the matter to bed during an appearance on The Jimmy Kimmel Show. “We had like a party before the Emmys recently,” she said, “and Conleth Hill, who plays Varys, who’s sitting next to me in that scene, he pulls me aside and he’s like, ‘Emilia, I’ve got to tell you something. I’ve got to tell you something, love. The coffee cup was mine!’”
Varys did it! Okay, case closed.
Only no, because Hill hit back when talking to British broadcaster Channel 4 on Sunday. “You know, there’s no proof that I did it. So accuse away.”
“I would need to have had Mr. Man arms to leave a coffee cup there,” Hill added, references a series of British children’s books featuring a character with extra-long arms. “I took a bullet for Emilia Clarke and she touted on me.”
I could use an explanation of “touted” too, but we don’t need to go too deep down the British rabbit hold. “I’m just not making any comments until I have a lawyer,” Hill joked.

I know the stars are just having fun batting the coffee cup blame ball back and forth to each other, but I feel like the real culprit will never be found. When the Game of Thrones ultimate collector’s edition or whatever inevitably comes out in a few years, I demand a special feature devoted to solving this mystery once and for all.
