On Monday, November 18, the special illustrated edition of A Clash of Kings — the second novel in the A Song of Ice and Fire book series — will be released. This will mark the 20th anniversary of the original book’s American release in 1999, something author George R.R. Martin began talking about last year.

Today, Martin once again took to his Not a Blog to reminisce and remind everyone to get their signed copies pre-ordered as soon as possible. “Hard to believe (at least for me), but it’s been twenty years since A CLASH OF KINGS was first published, in 1999,” he wrote. “That being the case, however, we wanted to do something special to mark the occasion. And we have.”

"The anniversary edition of CLASH from Bantam is gorgeously and lavishly illustrated by Lauren K. Cannon, with black and white line drawings and full color plates. The new edition also contains a special introduction by Bernard Cornwell, father of Richard Sharpe and Uhtred son of Uhtred, a giant of historical fiction. You should be able to find a copy at your favorite local bookstore or from any good online bookseller."

The cover itself is pretty handsome, as well:

Lauren K. Cannon is a seriously talented fantasy artist, so fans have a lot to look forward to in there. Bernard Cornwell is a pretty big get for the intro. His Saxon Stories are currently being adapted by Netflix as The Last Kingdom, a terrific show if you’re not watching it. Perhaps you’ve heard of it.
